Reina-Valera 1909 in audio: what you need to know

Recognize Vox's Spanish version and avoid confusing it with RV1960 or other revisions.

Reina-Valera 1909, abbreviated RV1909, is the Spanish text Vox uses for Tanakh narration. The name Reina-Valera also applies to other revisions, so it is worth retaining the year. Listening to an older version may require reviewing vocabulary or less common constructions. A modern voice does not, by itself, change the edition of the text it is reading.

Check that you are following the same revision

If you open a Spanish Bible to follow along with the audio, check the page that identifies the edition. RV1960 and other revisions may word some sentences differently. A variation does not automatically mean that Vox has omitted a word or that your edition is wrong.

When a difference matters for your study, write down the reference and the wording in both versions. Compare the words before drawing conclusions from the intonation.

Distinguish the version from the catalog

Vox uses RV1909 for the books corresponding to the Tanakh. That does not mean it offers an entire Christian edition with the New Testament. The book catalog and the translation edition are different decisions.

To consult an external RV1909 text, you can use libraries that explicitly identify that edition, such as WordProject's Spanish collection. Always check the identification on the page: not all audio libraries use the same revision.

Follow references and actual limits

In Vox, choose Spanish and prepare your voice before generating a chapter. Check where the narration ends with the available balance. If it contains only the beginning, do not describe it as a complete chapter.

In Joel and Malachi, also check the chapter divisions when comparing with the Hebrew. A note with the version, reference, and last portion you listened to makes it easier to resume reading. The goal is to know exactly what you are hearing, not to claim that a particular revision is superior to all the others without explicit criteria and textual comparison.
