A guide to choosing a language, preparing your voice, and listening to the Tanakh without confusing narration, translation, and a complete reading.

Listening to the audio Bible can help you engage with a text you already know or begin a new reading. In Vox, the focus is on the Tanakh: the books of the Hebrew Bible, available for generating narration in Hebrew, English, and Spanish. It does not include the New Testament. This distinction matters if you are looking for a complete Christian collection or an edition with deuterocanonical books.

Decide what you want to listen to

Before choosing a voice, decide whether your goal is to understand a story, practice a language, or review a passage. For an initial understanding, start with the language you know well. To compare, listen to the same passage afterward in another language and keep a handwritten copy or one in a text library such as Sefaria.

Do not measure progress only in minutes. A short excerpt with a specific question can be more useful than a long session without context. Note the book, chapter, and point where you stopped.

From recording to the first chapter

Create your account, go to My Voice, and select the language. Record the 10 seconds the application allows in a quiet setting and complete the cloning process. Once it is finished, you will reach the listening room to choose a book and chapter. The voice must be created before playback.

The generated audio may be an excerpt: its length depends on the available balance. Review your account and check where the recording ends before considering an entire chapter listened to.

Listening that lets you check the text

Synthesized narration does not replace the reference text or guarantee liturgical pronunciation. If a name, pause, or word surprises you, return to the written passage. On a second listen, look for who is speaking, what changes, and what question remains open. That brief record turns playback into a mindful reading session.
